The middle school science class at American School Dhahran conducted an engaging experiment to investigate whether the gas produced when bath bombs react with water creates new matter or simply changes the form of existing matter. The students carefully measured the total mass of a sealed bottle before adding the bath bomb and again after the reaction took place.

The experiment provided a clear, hands-on illustration of the Law of Conservation of Mass, showing that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another. The atoms originally in the solid bath bomb and the liquid water rearranged themselves into gas form, but the total amount of matter stayed constant.

This type of investigation not only deepens students’ understanding of fundamental scientific principles but also encourages curiosity and critical thinking. It’s a great example of the innovative and experiential learning happening every day in classrooms, helping students make meaningful connections between science concepts and the world around them.
