American School Dhahran’s middle and high school band students delivered exceptional performances this week, highlighting their growing musicianship, dedication and passion for the performing arts.

The winter concerts opened with the middle school Beginning Band, who took the stage for their first ever performance. Playing before parents and the entire middle school student body, the ensemble demonstrated impressive confidence and musicality. They continued a cherished ASD tradition with a cheerful rendition of “Jingle Bells,” before the Concert Band followed with a polished performance that showcased their developing skills. Highlights included “Tik Tik Tik Ya” and “Shadow Fire,” both of which featured strong ensemble playing and expressive technique. The afternoon served as a celebration of student progress and the joy of making music together.

Later in the week, the high school Concert Band performed a dynamic program that reflected weeks of preparation and artistic growth. Their performance featured “Tripwire” by Jarod Hall, a rhythmic and driving work that the ensemble handled with precision and Randall Standridge’s “Bazaar,” which brought regional musical themes to life. The ASD Jazz Band continued the evening with five selections, including a standout alto saxophone solo in Les Sabina’s “Southern Charm.” The ensemble closed their set with an energetic rendition of “La Negra Tiene Tumbao,” ending the night on a high note.

Together, the middle and high school concerts showcased the excellence of ASD’s performing arts program and the hard work of students committed to developing their musical talents. ASD extends a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Ned Fortescu for his continued support and guidance in helping students bring out their talent.

These performances reflect the school’s dedication to supporting creativity and the joy of artistic expression and all band students should be incredibly proud of their achievements.
