ASD Celebrates Gerge’an and Community Traditions

American School Dhahran recently celebrated Gerge’an with elementary and middle school students in a vibrant event organized by ASD’s Parent Teacher Group.
Gerge’an, a cherished Gulf tradition observed during the holy month of Ramadan, is a celebration of gratitude, generosity and community. Children dress in colorful traditional attire, sing festive songs and receive sweets and treats from neighbors and family members. The occasion offers a meaningful opportunity for students to learn about local customs while experiencing the joy of cultural connection.
At ASD, the day was filled with laughter, music and hands-on learning. Students gathered to learn about the history and significance of Gerge’an. The event reflected the school’s commitment to honoring the culture of Saudi Arabia while supporting global understanding among its diverse student body.
Events such as Gerge’an are part of a broader commitment at ASD to create meaningful student experiences beyond the classroom. Through cultural celebrations, service initiatives and community partnerships, students are encouraged to grow academically, socially and culturally.
By sharing traditions and learning from one another, ASD continues to strengthen the sense of belonging that defines its community.
