American School Dhahran hosted its annual book fair Nov. 30–Dec. 4, giving students across the school community an opportunity to explore a wide selection of books and discover new stories that spark imagination.

Throughout the week, classrooms visited the fair to browse titles ranging from early reader favorites to young adult fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and more. Students excitedly shared recommendations with one another, carefully selected their favorites and left with books they were eager to dive into at home.

The book fair is one of ASD’s most anticipated annual events and for good reason. Reading-centered experiences like this celebrate the joy of books and reinforce the school’s commitment to literacy and lifelong learning.

Research shows that consistent exposure to books helps strengthen vocabulary, improve comprehension and build critical-thinking skills. By allowing students to choose their own reading material, a key factor in nurturing motivated readers, the book fair supports independent learning and encourages a positive reading culture across grade levels. Access to a wide variety of genres also helps students discover new interests, explore diverse perspectives and develop confidence as readers.

Teachers report that the excitement surrounding the fair often leads to increased reading time in school and at home, creating momentum that benefits students long after the event ends.

ASD is proud to host programs that support curiosity and empower students to grow academically and creatively. This year’s book fair once again reminded us that when students connect with the right book, they open the door to a world of imagination and possibility.
