ASD Competes and Wins Big at NESAC Academic Games

From November 2-4, ASD high school students participated in the NESAC Academic Games tournament in Abu Dhabi.  The tournament had 80 students participate from 6 schools: American School Dhahran, American International School of Kuwait,  American School of Kuwait, GAA Abu Dhabi, Qatar Academy and American International School of Abu Dhabi.

Major accomplishments for the ASD team at this tournament are:

  • Varsity won 1st place in the Science & Engineering Olympiad.
  • Varsity won 2nd place in the Fine Arts Olympiad.
  • 2 students made the top ten in JV Geography.
  • 1 student made the top ten in Varsity Geography.
  • The ASD JV team won the Spelling Olympiad.
  • 1 student won the JV Spelling Bee.
  • 1 student made the top ten in the Spelling Olympiad.
  • 1 student won second place in the Varsity Spelling Bee.
  • 1 student tied for first place in the JV Math Olympiad.
  • In the Quiz Bowl, both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams qualified for the quarterfinals.
  • In the Olympiad overall, JV received second place out of eight teams.
  • In the Olympiad overall, Varsity received third out of nine teams.

It was the ASD Academic Games team’s first participation and both our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams showed exemplary sportsmanship, dedication and achievement.  They made a big impact for a first-time school and defeated many seasoned teams.

We are incredibly proud of this achievement. Congratulations to our students and their teachers, and we thank Ms. Libby Lies and Mr. Keith Novick for their support.
