American School Dhahran hosted its annual Model United Nations conference, DHAMUN XX, on Feb. 13–14, welcoming nearly 400 student delegates for two days of debate, diplomacy and collaboration centered on global issues.

Guided by sponsor Zeinab Karnib and led by an executive team of 33 high school students, the conference operated under the theme “The Pen Is Mightier Than the Sword.” Delegates worked in committees to draft and negotiate resolutions addressing international challenges affecting communities worldwide, practicing research, public speaking and consensus-building skills throughout the event.

The student-led conference reflects the school’s commitment to academic programs that extend learning beyond the classroom. Participants applied knowledge from social studies, history and language arts courses while strengthening leadership and communication abilities essential for college and career readiness.

By emphasizing dialogue and peaceful problem-solving, the conference encouraged students to consider multiple perspectives and develop solutions through cooperation rather than conflict. The event also highlighted student initiative, as organizers managed logistics, moderated sessions and facilitated negotiations across committees.

DHAMUN XX exemplifies how experiential learning at American School Dhahran connects academic preparation with real-world application, empowering students to engage thoughtfully with complex global topics and demonstrate the impact of ideas, collaboration and respectful discourse.
