The BSD and ASD London Theatre Trip, held from 16th to 23rd October 2025, was a truly memorable week filled with outstanding performances, cultural exploration and creative inspiration. Each day offered students the chance to experience world-class theatre alongside visits to some of London’s most iconic landmarks, creating an ideal balance of learning, enjoyment and adventure.

Throughout the week, students attended a diverse range of theatrical productions, each leaving a lasting impression. Matilda the Musical impressed with its energy and talented young cast, while The Play That Goes Wrong provided endless laughter. Punch offered a bold, thought-provoking take on contemporary theatre and Oliver! delighted audiences with its classic music and engaging performances.

The group was particularly captivated by Hamlet at the National Theatre, whose emotional power resonated deeply. Experiencing Troilus and Cressida at Shakespeare’s Globe was a rare and memorable opportunity to see the Bard’s work performed in its historical setting. Six: The Concert transformed the theatre into a lively pop event, and My Neighbour Totoro amazed everyone with its imaginative staging, intricate puppetry and touching storytelling.

The experience extended beyond being an audience member. Students participated in two interactive workshops designed to develop their creativity and performance skills. The Physical Theatre workshop focused on expressive movement and storytelling, while the Commedia dell’Arte session introduced participants to the humour, character work and masks of historical European theatre.

Outside the theatre, students immersed themselves in London’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Highlights included a visit to the Tower of London, guided tours of both Shakespeare’s Globe and the National Theatre and time exploring Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum and the Tate Modern. Each stop deepened their understanding of the city’s artistic and historical significance.

The trip also included a variety of dining experiences that reflected London’s vibrant culinary scene. Students and staff enjoyed Asian cuisine at Wagamama, classic burgers at Honest Burgers and a colourful vegetarian Indian meal. A traditional afternoon tea with scones offered a quintessentially British touch, while the final dinner at La Porchetta, an Italian restaurant, provided a fitting conclusion to a wonderful week.

By the end of the trip, both students and staff had not only witnessed some of the world’s finest theatre but had also created shared memories that will last a lifetime. London lived up to its reputation as the global home of theatre, and anticipation is already building for next year’s trip.

A special thank you goes to Mr Flynn for his outstanding organisation and dedication in making this remarkable experience possible. His efforts ensured that every moment of the journey was enriching, enjoyable and inspiring.
