BSD KS2 Students Bring the Ancient Maya to Life Through Student-Led Learning
SHARE
This term, Key Stage 2 Students at British School Dhahran explored the Ancient Mayan civilisation through inspiring student-led lessons. Taking ownership of their learning, pupils planned and delivered engaging sessions for their classmates, transforming history lessons into dynamic and collaborative experiences.
Students investigated a wide range of aspects of Mayan life, including daily routines, religious beliefs, architecture, achievements, writing systems and calendars. Each group designed interactive activities such as quizzes, discussions and challenges, ensuring lessons were both informative and enjoyable. These activities brought the Ancient Maya to life and deepened students’ understanding of this remarkable civilisation.
By leading their own lessons, students at BSD demonstrated strong communication skills, effective teamwork and secure subject knowledge. They asked thoughtful questions, encouraged active participation and adapted their activities to suit their audience, developing skills that extend well beyond the history curriculum.
It was inspiring to see KS2 Students at BSD approach this project with enthusiasm, confidence and maturity. Their classroom became a hub of curiosity and collaboration as they celebrated the legacy of the Ancient Maya while developing valuable skills to support learning across the curriculum.
