Each October, schools across the United States recognize National Bullying Prevention Month, a time dedicated to promoting kindness and respect. At ASD, this month serves as a meaningful reminder of our shared responsibility to build a school culture where every student feels safe, valued and supported.

To celebrate the month, the Middle School Student Council invited all advisory classes to participate in a door-decorating contest that combined anti-bullying messages with a fun Halloween theme. The challenge encouraged students to think creatively about how to express unity, friendship and empathy while adding a festive touch to the school’s hallways.

The result? A colorful, inspiring display of teamwork and imagination. Hallways were filled with orange ribbons, hand-drawn posters and positive messages promoting kindness and standing up for others. Each advisory group worked together to design doors that reflected their shared values from slogans like to uplifting messages.

A special congratulations goes to Mr. Jacob Scherer and his students for earning first place in the contest. Their creativity and collaboration truly stood out. Appreciation also goes to Ms. Ashlie Jensen and Ms. Zhanna Montgomery, whose advisory groups were named runners-up for their outstanding designs and inspiring messages.

This initiative was more than an art project; it was an opportunity for students to practice compassion and collaboration, two values that are central to ASD’s learning community.

Creative programs like this one show how ASD’s educators continue to blend creativity, critical thinking and character development in the classroom. By turning a simple contest into a learning experience about empathy and community, our teachers model the kind of engaged, thoughtful citizenship we hope to inspire in every student.

As we wrap up National Bullying Prevention Month, we celebrate the vibrant doors that line our hallways and the spirit of unity they represent.
