American School Dhahran (ASD) is once again preparing to host one of its hallmark events, TEDxAmerican School Dhahran Youth and auditions are officially open. This annual tradition invites students, faculty and community members to share original ideas, performances and stories that inspire dialogue and spark innovation.

Modeled after the globally recognized TED format, TEDx events are independently organized programs designed to amplify voices and connect communities through short, powerful talks. At ASD, the TEDx Youth event has become a longstanding platform for meaningful expression, allowing participants to explore thought-provoking and sometimes challenging topics.

Each year, the event draws an audience of International Schools Group (ISG) students, parents, staff and local residents. Every presentation is recorded and later published on the official TEDx Talks YouTube channel, which has more than 43 million subscribers, giving ASD speakers a truly global stage.

TEDx speakers at ASD are encouraged to think creatively and push boundaries in their presentations. Talks may take the form of speeches, performances or demonstrations, allowing for a diverse and engaging lineup.

The selection process for this year’s TEDxAmerican School Dhahran Youth event includes several stages:

  • Nov. 2–15: Candidates submit an application outlining their ideas and background.

  • Nov. 16–20: Shortlisted candidates present a five-minute sample talk.

  • Nov. 20–27: An evaluation panel reviews each candidate and finalizes selections. Some candidates may be placed on a waitlist.

  • Nov. 27–Jan. 27: Selected speakers participate in weekly rehearsals and preparations leading up to the conference.

ASD’s TEDx talks have reached audiences far beyond the school’s campus, with some presentations garnering hundreds of thousands of views online. Among the most memorable is “Questions Every Teenager Needs to Be Asked” by Lawrence Lewars, originally delivered when the school was known as Dhahran High School.
