ISG Dammam's Biology Club Visit Medical Research Center During WOW Week

During Week Without Walls (WOW Week), ISG Dammam’s Biology Club students took part in an enriching two day research visit to the College of Medicine at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University on January 18 and 19. The visit was organized under the guidance of Biology Club sponsor Ms. Rana Fatima with support from chaperone Ms. Rubeena Huq. Students were given a valuable opportunity to experience university-level biomedical research in an authentic clinical setting.

The program was chaired by Professor Ayman A. Elbadry with Dr. Basavaraj Hunasemarada serving as co-chair of the workshop. Their leadership provided students with meaningful exposure to clinical microbiology and modern diagnostic practices while offering insight into careers within the medical field.

The first day focused on foundational microbiology concepts and laboratory practices. Students learned about microbial classification and identification while observing sample processing techniques. They examined bacterial cultures, observed Gram stained samples under microscopes and learned how antibiotic sensitivity is tested. Laboratory safety protocols were emphasized throughout the experience.

The second day expanded on these concepts through deeper observation and analysis. Students examined how different antibiotics affect bacterial growth and explored specialized microbiology instruments used in clinical laboratories. They were also introduced to immunodiagnostic methods and learned about molecular diagnostics through PCR, helping them connect classroom learning to real world medical applications.

This immersive experience strengthened scientific curiosity and inspired interest in future studies related to medicine and healthcare sciences. The Biology Club extends sincere gratitude to the College of Medicine faculty for their generosity and expertise.
