ISG Jubail recently welcomed author Mienke Estebeth for a special visit that brought storytelling to life for elementary students. The session centered on her children’s book The Camel and the Star, an inspiring adventure about a young camel named Desert Rose who learns the meaning of courage.
Throughout the visit, Mienke engaged students with warmth and curiosity. She took time to learn about their experiences and encouraged them to share their thoughts and stories. Mrs. Gayathri Sankaran, Assistant Librarian, shared, “The entire session was very interactive, giving all the children a chance to speak. She paused between readings to show the illustrations and let students take in the details. I feel that was fantastic.”
Mrs. Melat, Librarian, reflected on how deeply the story resonated with students. “The highlight for me was how excited each student was to share their own experiences in the desert. After we read the book, they told stories about moments when they had been brave. That meant a lot to me because it showed they understood the lesson in the book, that it is okay to feel scared, but courage helps you move forward.”
The visit reminded everyone of the power of storytelling to connect, inspire and build confidence. Through meaningful conversations and shared imagination, students experienced reading as a living, communal moment, one that celebrated both creativity and courage.
Mienke’s visit left a lasting impression on our young readers, who left the library with smiles, new stories and a deeper appreciation for the adventures found in books.
