American School Dhahran launched its leadership program for the school year with the first National Honor Society (NHS) Annual Service Night, an engaging and collaborative event that brought together students, staff and the spirit of service.

The evening featured a high-energy team-building challenge: students were tasked with constructing the tallest free-standing tower using only marshmallows and toothpicks. Amid cheers and competitive spirit, the tallest structure reached an impressive 26 centimeters. While the activity sparked plenty of fun, it also highlighted the cooperation and problem-solving skills at the heart of our leadership programs.

The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that recognizes high school students for excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character. At ASD, the NHS currently includes students from two grade levels. The chapter anticipates welcoming a new group of inductees later this academic year.

Through programs like NHS, our school empowers students to grow as leaders and serve their communities. Events such as Service Night are meaningful opportunities for students to build connections, develop their leadership potential and model the values we uphold as a learning community.

These experiences are made possible by the dedication of our teaching staff Ms. Rasha Al-Nasr and Mr. Richard Smith.

We believe leadership is not just a role, it's a mindset. Thanks to our exceptional students and staff, the year is off to a strong and spirited start.
