Theory of Knowledge Students Connect Ideas to the Real World at ISG Jubail

ISG Jubail’s Theory of Knowledge (TOK) students recently invited their peers and families to present their annual TOK Exhibition, a key requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The exhibition invited students to explore how knowledge appears in everyday life by selecting a prompt provided by the IB and connecting it to three real-world objects. This process encouraged students to think deeply about how ideas take shape beyond the classroom and how knowledge influences the world around them.
Each student began by choosing one of the official IB prompts. From there, they selected meaningful objects that linked directly to their chosen question. These objects included personal items, historical artifacts, scientific tools and pieces of media. Through careful reflection and written commentary, students explained the significance of each object and how it supported a broader conversation about knowledge, understanding and perspective.
“It’s inspiring to watch students bring TOK beyond the classroom. As a course that asks students to examine how we know what we claim to know, TOK is one of the defining experiences of an IB learner. This year’s exhibition made that clear, with students connecting everyday objects like a bag of barbecue wood to profound historical artifacts such as the world’s first map to explore how knowledge is created and interpreted.” said Mr. Brad Dugan, the IBDP Coordinator.
The exhibition created an inviting space for families, classmates and staff to explore student thinking and engage in meaningful conversations about how knowledge shapes our decisions and our understanding of the world.
ISG Jubail is proud of the curiosity, effort and confidence each student brought to their work and grateful to the community members who supported the exhibition.
