During WOW Week, a group of ISG Jubail students took their learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of Rome, Italy, where history, culture and creativity came together in meaningful ways. The experience allowed students to engage deeply with the world around them while building connections and global awareness.

As students explored Rome’s nearly 3,000 years of history, guided walking tours brought classroom learning to life. Visits to landmarks such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and St. Peter’s Basilica encouraged students to reflect on ancient civilizations, architectural design and the ways history continues to shape modern life. Walking through these spaces offered moments of curiosity and thoughtful discussion as students connected what they had studied to what they were seeing firsthand.

Creativity and cultural immersion played an important role throughout the week. Students took part in an Italian cooking workshop led by a local chef, navigated the city through cultural challenges and joined an intercultural walking tour that explored migration and refugee experiences in modern Rome. Experiences such as gladiator training, visits to local markets and a guided gelato tour added joy and energy while encouraging students to consider identity, culture and global citizenship through new perspectives.

Across the week, students demonstrated independence, responsibility and care for one another as they traveled, collaborated and engaged respectfully with the people and places they encountered. These shared moments strengthened friendships and allowed students to grow through reflection and adaptability, capturing the heart of WOW Week learning.

Sincere thanks go to chaperones Kris Hammer, Harriet Marston and Dillon Sweales for their dedication, thoughtful planning and steady support throughout the trip. Their guidance created a safe and encouraging environment that allowed students to fully engage in each experience.

We are proud of our students for the way they represented the school community and grateful to everyone who helped make this journey a memorable chapter in their learning experience.
