On Sunday, ASD honored its junior varsity and varsity athletes during the High School Athletics and Activities Awards. More than 120 awards were presented across four categories: Most Improved, Impact Award, Dedication Award and Most Valuable Player (MVP). The ceremony recognized the hard work, perseverance and sportsmanship demonstrated by student athletes throughout the year.
The event also highlighted the prestigious Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity Athletes of the Year awards for both girls and boys, celebrating students who exemplified excellence in competition, leadership and character.
In addition to student recognition, ASD honored four coaches for five years of dedicated service to the school: Coach Oefelein, Coach Jensen, Coach Sprague and Coach Paguio. Their contributions have played an important role in fostering student growth both on and off the field.
ASD's athletics program continues to thrive, with participation and opportunities expanding across all levels. The school now fields B teams in all sports, while both the swim squad and cross-country teams have experienced significant growth over the past two years. Throughout the academic year, ASD teams achieved notable success in both SAIKAC and NESAC competitions.
A particularly proud accomplishment was ASD's 100% participation rate in all NESAC events. Students represented the school not only in athletics but also in Band & Choir and Leadership activities, demonstrating ASD's commitment to developing well-rounded learners and leaders.
The celebration continued on Monday with the Middle School Athletics Awards, recognizing middle school student athletes for their dedication and achievements throughout the season. More than 50 awards were presented across the same categories of Most Improved, Impact Award, Dedication Award and MVP.
This year's U14 Athlete of the Year recognition included a unique distinction, as two students shared the Boys Athlete of the Year award, reflecting the exceptional performances and contributions of both athletes. The ceremony also celebrated the Girls Athlete of the Year for her outstanding accomplishments during the season.
ASD additionally recognized Coach Dory for five years of service and Coach Jreije for an impressive 10 years of dedication to the school's athletics program. Their continued commitment has helped shape positive experiences and lasting memories for generations of ASD student-athletes.
