Students from American School Dhahran recently demonstrated compassion, leadership and service through a heartfelt initiative supporting children and families at Sanad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting families whose children are affected by cancer.

Earlier this year, during preparations for ASD’s WOW Week, more than 20 middle school students took the initiative to handcraft activity boxes filled with games, crafts and thoughtful items designed to bring comfort, joy and entertainment to children receiving treatment at The King Fahad Specialist Hospital. The project reflected weeks of planning, creativity and dedication from students committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

On June 9, ASD teachers who chaperoned the WOW Week trip visited Sanad to deliver the activity boxes and spend the day engaging with the children and families. Throughout the visit, the teachers worked, played and connected with the children, creating moments filled with laughter, smiles and genuine joy.  For everyone involved, the experience became a powerful full-circle moment that highlighted the impact of compassion and community service.

The visit served as a meaningful reminder of ASD’s commitment to developing not only academic excellence, but also empathy, global citizenship and leadership among its students. Through initiatives like this, students are encouraged to use their talents and time to positively impact their communities and support those in need.

Special thanks go to Ms. Zeina Sakr, Ms. Zeina Jreij and Mr. Phillip Young for their guidance, encouragement and support throughout the initiative. ASD also extends its appreciation to the middle school students who dedicated countless hours and days preparing the activity boxes. Their kindness, compassion and commitment truly shined throughout the project.

ASD is incredibly proud of these young compassionate leaders and the thoughtful, caring adults they are becoming.
