ISG Dammam Social Studies Students Bring Ancient Civilizations to Life

A social studies class at ISG Dammam recently transformed into a vibrant living museum as students in Ms. Nadia Iqbal’s class celebrated the culmination of their Ancient Civilizations unit through a series of engaging performances and presentations.

As part of addressing Standard 4, Communicating Conclusions and Taking Informed Action, students worked collaboratively in groups to research ancient societies, write original scripts and perform creative skits inspired by the civilizations they studied throughout the unit. Each presentation highlighted a different civilization, including Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Ancient China and the Indus Valley, showcasing historical knowledge, creativity, teamwork and thoughtful communication.

Through their performances, students brought history to life by exploring topics such as the pyramids of Egypt, the law codes of Mesopotamia, the artistic achievements of Ancient China and the innovations of the Indus Valley civilization. Their presentations reflected careful research, strong preparation and an impressive ability to communicate historical understanding in meaningful and engaging ways.

Students outside Mrs. Nadia’s class attended the presentations and shared positive feedback for their classmates’ creativity and insights. In addition to performing their skits, students also presented thoughtful conclusions and identified “doable actions” that connected ancient ideas about justice, innovation, leadership and community to the modern world and to choices they can make in their own lives today.

The project provided students with an opportunity to move beyond memorizing historical facts and instead actively engage with the past through performance, collaboration, research and reflection. It was inspiring to see students step confidently into the role of historians while using their voices to make meaningful connections between history and the present day.
