Biology students have been deeply engaged in an exciting Genetics Research Project through the Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach, demonstrating impressive dedication, curiosity and scientific thinking throughout the process.

As part of this in-depth project, students selected genetics-related topics and disorders to investigate independently, allowing them to take ownership of their learning while exploring complex scientific concepts in meaningful ways. Throughout the research process, students reviewed articles from respected scientific journals, analyzed information and developed research-based essays to strengthen their understanding of genetics and inherited disorders.

Now, after weeks of hard work and preparation, students are ready to showcase their learning through the Biology Genetics Research Project Infographic Gallery Presentation. During this event, students will present detailed three-fold infographic display boards highlighting topics such as Sickle Cell Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Huntington’s Disease, Down Syndrome, and other important genetic conditions. Their presentations combine scientific research, data analysis, visual communication and creativity to make complex information engaging and accessible.

To create an authentic “scientific conference” experience, students will also participate in oral presentations and defense sessions where they will explain their findings, present data, and respond to audience questions. This experience helps students strengthen valuable communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills while learning how scientists share and defend their research within the scientific community.

The exhibition also provides an opportunity for staff members and science-interested students to support and encourage our young scientists by visiting the gallery, engaging with presentations, and offering thoughtful feedback. Staff volunteers will help evaluate projects using grading criteria designed to identify outstanding work while providing students with meaningful insights to support their growth as researchers and communicators.

This project has been a wonderful example of student-driven learning, collaboration, and academic exploration. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, perseverance, and enthusiasm our Grade 10 Biology students have shown throughout this experience and look forward to celebrating their achievements during the Infographic Gallery Presentation.
