Students from ISG Dammam are helping bring the voices of their school community to a wider conversation through the Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SSAC).

The first SSAC meeting of the year brought together new and returning students from across ISG’s five campuses, including representatives from ISG Dammam. Two students from each high school level at ISG Dammam take part in the council, with students able to continue their involvement from Grade 9 through graduation.

A key part of their role is listening to their peers. SSAC members are responsible for gathering feedback from students across their campuses, including younger students, so the concerns and ideas shared with the council represent more than just the high school experience. These concerns can range from smaller requests, such as having chocolate milk available in the canteen, to larger ideas such as providing after-school activity buses to help students commute home.

During the meeting, students explored the importance of collecting feedback carefully, following up on concerns and making sure communication continues after an issue has been raised. This is an important part of representing student voice, as council members learn to consider which concerns can be addressed with their own campus leadership and which may need to be brought to the superintendent.

Students also connected ISG’s core values with the responsibilities of being an SSAC member. Through an interactive activity with students from other ISG schools, they considered how these values can guide the way they listen to others, communicate ideas and contribute to their school communities.

The meeting also gave students an opportunity to provide feedback on the upcoming Student Pulse Check Survey, which will gather student perspectives across all ISG campuses. Their input will help ensure the survey reflects the experiences and needs of the students it is intended to serve.

For ISG Dammam students, being part of SSAC is an opportunity to represent their peers while learning how meaningful change can begin with listening, thoughtful discussion and follow-through. Their involvement helps strengthen the connection between students and school leadership and gives student perspectives an active place in the wider ISG community.
