Elementary students at ISG Jubail recently joined readers around the world for a special celebration of reading, taking part in a global initiative that brought people together through the shared experience of stories.

Organized by the British Council and the National Literacy Trust, the online reading event aimed to set a Guinness World Record for the most people reading online within 12 hours. By joining the initiative, ISG Jubail students became part of a wider community of readers united by a love of books and the stories that bring people together.

A highlight of the experience was an engaging session with award-winning author and screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Students had the opportunity to hear him read from ‘The Blockbusters!’ and learn more about the inspiration behind his writing. He spoke about how personal experiences, including difficult times in life, can shape the stories people tell and help them find ways to share their voices with others.

The session offered students a glimpse into the creative process behind storytelling while encouraging them to think about the experiences and ideas that can inspire their own writing. Hearing directly from an established author also gave young readers an opportunity to connect with the person behind the words and consider how stories can reflect different perspectives and experiences.

Reading plays an important role in helping students explore new ideas, understand the world around them and discover experiences beyond their own. Taking part in a global event gave students another way to appreciate this shared connection while knowing that readers in many other communities were participating alongside them. We are proud of our elementary students for joining this worldwide celebration and continuing to grow as curious, enthusiastic readers.
