BHIG Blue Hydrogen Site Visits Provide Valuable Learning Experience for BSD Students
SHARE
Students from British School Dhahran (BSD) recently visited the Blue Hydrogen Industrial Gases (BHIG) facility, gaining a firsthand look at cutting-edge clean-energy technologies and how they connect to what they are learning in the classroom.
Throughout the visit, BSD students explored the science behind blue hydrogen production. An operations manager explained BHIG’s mission and described how blue hydrogen is produced and why it is becoming an important part of the global energy transition. Students learned the differences between gray, blue and green hydrogen; how BHIG captures carbon dioxide and injects it into the seabed and how hydrogen technologies support cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions. They also observed how liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen are produced on-site before being safely stored and transported.
The experience also gave BSD students valuable exposure to engineering career pathways. BHIG staff shared insights about university majors, internships and their own professional journeys, offering practical guidance for students considering careers in fields such as process engineering.
During the site tour, students visited control rooms, maintenance areas and the Instrumentation Workshop, where they explored the tools and systems used to monitor and regulate critical equipment. A lunch hosted by BHIG added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the day.
The visit concluded with a guided bus tour of the larger facility, giving students a sense of the scale and sophistication of the operation. Teacher chaperones shared enthusiastic feedback, noting that the visit provided new knowledge not only for students but for staff as well.
For BSD, the BHIG visit served as an outstanding example of experiential learning. By connecting classroom concepts to real-world technologies, students gained a deeper understanding of the innovations shaping the future of energy.
