ISG Dammam Middle School Zine Activity Celebrates Realistic Fiction Through Creativity

A middle school class wrapped up their Realistic Fiction Writing Unit with an engaging publishing celebration that highlighted both creativity and strong writing skills.
Over the past several weeks, students worked through the complete writing process. They brainstormed ideas, developed characters and settings, drafted their narratives, revised with purpose and edited with care. Their efforts resulted in original stories that felt grounded in real experiences and relatable situations.
To honor the conclusion of the unit, each student transformed their story into a handcrafted zine. These eight-page mini booklets reflected the heart of their narratives through expressive illustrations, thoughtful design choices and artistic layouts that deepened the emotional meaning of each plot. Some students leaned into bold drawings while others used quiet details that added texture to their writing. Every approach was celebrated because each zine captured the writer’s voice in a personal way.
During the celebration on December 9, students exchanged their booklets across the room. They read one another’s work, admired the variety of creative techniques, and discussed how realistic fiction can mirror the complexities of everyday life. The room buzzed with pride as students recognized the growth they achieved as young authors who can craft stories with sincerity and use design elements to strengthen emotional impact.
The zine showcase honored both effort and imagination. It also served as a reminder that when students are given the tools to express themselves, they can produce work that reflects confidence and genuine skill.
