BSD Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Students Celebrate Growth and Achievement Through Adventurous Journey Presentations

British School Dhahran recently welcomed parents and guests to a special Duke of Edinburgh’s Award presentation brunch, where BSD students proudly shared their experiences from this year’s Adventurous Journey section of the Award programme.

Students participating in the Bronze, Silver and Gold Award levels delivered presentations reflecting on both their practice expedition to Thumb Rock and their qualifying Adventurous Journey in Malaysia. The event provided an opportunity for students to showcase not only the physical journeys they completed, but also the personal development and valuable life skills gained throughout the experience.

During their presentations, students spoke confidently about the goals they had set for themselves, the challenges they encountered individually and as teams  and the strategies they used to overcome obstacles together. Their reflections highlighted the importance of resilience, teamwork, communication, navigation, leadership and problem-solving in demanding and unfamiliar environments.

Students also shared honest and thoughtful insights into managing group dynamics, organising and carrying equipment, cooking independently, adapting to changing conditions and maintaining motivation during physically and mentally challenging situations. These experiences demonstrated significant growth in confidence, maturity and responsibility.

For parents and guests, the brunch offered meaningful insight into the dedication and perseverance shown by students throughout both the practice and qualifying journeys. It also celebrated the commitment and leadership displayed by all participants as they embraced the challenges of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme (DofE).

The event was a proud occasion for the BSD DofE community and served as a reminder that the Award represents far more than travel or trekking. It is a programme designed to encourage personal growth, independence, resilience and learning through real-world experiences that leave a lasting impact.
