Students from the World Geography and Culture course showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills during the Next-Gen Solutions Showcase, held in the school library.
The event featured 21 student teams presenting innovative solutions to real-world human geography challenges affecting communities across Africa and around the globe. Drawing on their understanding of global issues, students were challenged to think beyond existing approaches by either developing original ideas or improving current solutions to better address specific local and global needs.
Projects covered a wide range of topics, including access to clean water, environmental sustainability, desertification, agriculture, transportation systems, air quality and community development. Students brought their ideas to life through mobile applications, websites, board games, architectural models, engineering concepts, functioning prototypes and multimedia presentations.
Structured as an interactive gallery walk, the showcase invited students and staff from both the middle school and high school to explore each project and engage directly with the presenters. Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about the research behind each innovation and gain insight into the creative process that guided students’ work.
The event demonstrated how students can apply classroom learning to real-world challenges while developing essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication. Through their projects, students showed not only an understanding of complex global issues but also a commitment to imagining solutions that can create meaningful change.
The Next-Gen Solutions Showcase was organized by Ms. Aisha Nasir, with special thanks to Mr. Stephen Pire, Mr. Naidoo and Ms. Betsey Hawkins for their continued support and guidance throughout the project.
