Dear ISG Community,
I am delighted to announce that our new superintendent, Ms. Rhonda Norris, will be visiting ISG in the coming week to meet with teachers, staff, parents and students. This marks her third visit to our schools and we are eagerly looking forward to welcoming her. Ms. Norris will tour our campuses and classrooms and this visit presents a valuable opportunity for our school community to connect with her, share our experiences and discuss our vision for the future. With her official start date in August, her visit serves as an exciting precursor to the beginning of her tenure.
Our grade spotlight this week is on Grade 9 and Year 10 across the district. At ISG, students engage with mathematics both inside and outside the classroom to develop a comprehensive understanding of the subject. Inside the classroom, students participate in interactive lessons that emphasize problem-solving, critical thinking and conceptual understanding. They work collaboratively with peers, utilize technology and receive personalized support from teachers to master mathematical concepts. Outside the classroom, students have opportunities to apply their mathematical knowledge in real-world contexts through a variety of activities and projects. Please click here to see how we learn math inside and outside our classrooms at ISG.
During the month of Ramadan, schools in the ISG district actively participated in a variety of activities. From hosting special assemblies and cultural events to organizing community service projects and charitable initiatives, students and staff alike engaged in observing the spirit of Ramadan. Additionally, schools fostered a sense of unity and inclusivity by encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to come together in celebration and reflection. These activities served as meaningful opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of Ramadan's significance and cultivate empathy, compassion and cultural awareness within the school community. Please watch some highlights from our schools here.
Sara Village School kicked off its first week back with a vibrant celebration for Eid in a community outdoor event. Students and families enjoyed the festivities that were a delightful fusion of cultures. From the laughter-filled bouncy castle to the excitement of breaking open the pinata, fun decorations, festival games, delicious food and activities kept everyone entertained throughout the afternoon.
ISG recently welcomed two esteemed psychologists, Dr. Alicia Janik and Dr. James Rosow, from the Truman Group (TG), renowned for their expertise in providing mental health care and consultation to expatriate families and children worldwide. During their visit on April 21-23, the TG psychologists conducted a comprehensive 2-day training workshop for all ISG school counselors and learning support teachers. The workshop delved into psychological theory and its practical application in supporting and guiding children. Key topics included validating children's experiences, fostering curiosity to navigate challenges and allowing space for discomfort to promote resilience and grit. On the third day, the TG psychologists hosted informative presentations for parents at ISG Jubail, ISG Dammam and ASD (for ASD, BSD and SVS). They shared compelling data highlighting the positive impact of adequate sleep, exercise and family meals on children's wellbeing, emphasizing their role in reducing the risk of depression and anxiety. Parents also gained insights into nurturing resilience in their children by embracing discomfort and fostering strength-building opportunities. The visit proved invaluable in equipping ISG educators and parents with essential tools and strategies to support the holistic development and mental health of our students.
