Dear ISG Community,
I am pleased to share that ISG has appointed a new Director of Finance, Mr. Maga Bashirov. Mr. Bashirov will be visiting ISG next week and we look forward to welcoming him and his family to our community. Please read the full announcement here.
Our grade spotlight this week is on the eldest students across the district, Grade 12 and Year 13. As they near graduation, we asked some of our students what they will miss the most about their schools. Click here to see what they had to say.
This week, the district-wide Typing Challenge (sponsored by BSD) came to an end, and we celebrated the top three winners from each school.
This competition is a year long competition that students take part in. Students join the Typing Competition Club, make the effort to practice and their progress is guaranteed. Experience in touch typing is not necessary.
The winners:
Thanks to Ms. Maha Sousak from BSD that organized the competition and awards. Maha dreamed of becoming a touch typist when she first started her degree in computer science and she is proud to be able to bring this important skill to our community in a fun and engaging way. Next year, Maha plans to add Arabic, dictation and offer this amazing opportunity to other local and international schools in Saudi Arabia in a Saudi Arabian Inter-Kingdom Typing Competition (SAIKTC).
On May 20, representatives from BAE Systems Ambassador Programme engaged approximately 72 Grade 7 and Year 7 & 9 students in STEM workshops at American School Dhahran and British School Dhahran. The purpose of the program is to create awareness around Engineering through associated STEM activities. The team focused on flight/aerodynamics, where students were able to create paper airplanes and helicopters from various materials. They then tested their planes through competitions to see how well and far they flew, receiving prizes at the end of the workshop. The sessions were fun and engaging for our ISG students and we thank British Aerospace and Electronics for this enriching experience.
ISG would like to recognize the incredible effort of our athletes in some of the national competitions that took place over the last few weeks. We would like to congratulate BSD student Igor who won first place in the 400 Individual Medley at the Saudi National Swimming Tournament on May 23. We would also like to recognize Mrs. Jessica Odendaal from SVS who conquered the sprint distance course in the Al Jubail Triathlon on May 18. She won not only in her age group but also as the overall female winner. Congratulations on your great achievements!

Sara Village Schools
Sara Village School students learned this week just how much of an impact they can have on the lives of others, even if they are across the world. During Empathy Week, SVS students contributed to helping a school in Nepal. This week they learned just how far their reach can extend. Their contributions led to adding colorful wall paintings in four pre-primary classrooms. Teachers, students and parents appreciated the vibrant paintings that allow students to point and touch the walls as they learn.
The school was also able to purchase two new guitars for their music club. The students are now able to practice during their breaks, after school and during free time. They have four music classes each week, and the new guitars have facilitated new opportunities for learning.
Sara Village School has set an excellent example of putting compassion into action and we are very proud of the impact they have made.
