Summary
The Library Instructional Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting Library teachers with the implementation of the curriculum and coordinating library materials and activities.
Position Duties
The successful candidate will be able to effectively:
- Demonstrate commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
- Assist teachers in the delivery of lessons in accordance with the goals and objectives of a clearly defined and documented curriculum for students.
- Organize classrooms, work centers, and activity areas.
- Maintain instructional supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Deliver lessons to students according to plans provided by the teachers.
- Respond appropriately to the range of individual needs in the library.
- Help Librarian support growth and interest in reading for children and young adults.
- Provide support in all ASD libraries as needed.
- Demonstrate creativity.
- Maintain a safe learning environment for students at all times.
- Supervise students during lunch, break times, and during transitioning between classes in the hallway.
- Respond appropriately to the range of individual needs and abilities within the class.
- From time to time, may be asked to assist with daily hygiene routines, including support at the swimming pool.
- Substitute coverage as needed.
- Afterschool staff children supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Librarian, Principals, and Assistant Principals.
Qualifications and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
- Be fluent in English, oral and written.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience
- Previous experience working in a Library (Preferred).
- Previous experience working with young learners is preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office/Excel/Google docs.
Skills
- Excellent command of English, both written and oral.
- Highly-developed organizational skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Maturity to handle a range of situations.
- Loyalty and a high level of confidentiality.
