Summary
The Substitute Teaching Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the delivery of lessons according to the lesson plans in the absence of the regular teaching assistant.
Position Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Demonstrate commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
- Assist the teacher in the delivery of lessons in accordance with the goals and objectives of a clearly defined and documented curriculum for students, where applicable.
- Organise classrooms, work centres and activity centres, where applicable.
- Maintain instructional supplies, materials and equipment.
- Maintain a safe learning environment for students at all times.
- Supervise students during lunch and other break times.
- Understand and execute the school emergency procedures, when required.
- Enforce classroom/school rules.
- Motivate students to learn and participate in the classroom during lessons.
- Model the school values at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, Vice Principal, or Principal.
Qualifications and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience
Previous experience as a substitute teacher (preferred).
Skills
- Command of English, both verbal and written.
- A demonstrated ability to instruct groups of students.
- Classroom management skills.
- Ability to handle a range of situations.
