BSD Students Make a Global Impact During Wow Week

During Week Without Walls (WOW), British School Dhahran (BSD) students embarked on three transformative trips across Saudi Arabia, Japan and Thailand. Each journey combined adventure, cultural immersion and service projects, reinforcing BSD’s commitment to holistic education and global responsibility.

Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia: Cultural Exchange and Community Giving

In Al-Ahsa, 28 students visited Al Anjal Private Schools in Al Hofuf, where they engaged in a rich cultural exchange.

They learned the traditional Saudi dance, Alharradh, and explored the values of hospitality and community through the Saudi Majles. The trip also had a humanitarian impact as BSD students collaborated with Al Anjal students to organize a clothing donation drive for those in need.

This experience deepened their understanding of Saudi traditions while developing a strong sense of social responsibility.

Tokyo, Japan: Sustainability and Heritage Preservation

A group of 27 students traveled to Tokyo, Japan, where they participated in multiple service projects.

In Asakusa, they engaged in a sustainable fashion initiative, helping artisans untie old kimonos to repurpose materials—an eye-opening experience about ethical fashion. Additionally, students volunteered at a local temple, assisting with cleaning and preservation efforts while learning from monks about the importance of giving back to the community.

These experiences reinforced the value of sustainability and cultural appreciation.

Kanchanaburi, Thailand: Adventure and Community Service

Meanwhile, 32 students took part in a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.

This physically demanding journey tested their resilience through jungle trekking, ziplining, and survival skill challenges. Beyond adventure, the trip also included cultural experiences, such as a visit to Malika City and a friendly basketball match with the International School of Myanmar, further strengthening their global perspective.

Across all three destinations, BSD students embraced new challenges, gained valuable life skills and contributed to meaningful service projects. These experiences not only broadened their worldviews but also reinforced their commitment to making a positive impact—both locally and globally.
