On January 20, ISG Jubail hosted the ISG District Mathematics Competition. This event was an opportunity for students to engage with mathematical concepts in a competitive yet enriching environment.

The competition consisted of three segments:

  1. UKMT (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust) Individual Test: This segment showcased individual problem-solving skills and mathematical acumen. 

  2. Group Investigation: This team-based segment allowed students to collaborate on tackling complex mathematical problems. 

  3. Countdown Competition: A fast-paced and exciting challenge, this segment tested quick thinking and rapid problem-solving skills under time constraints.

To prepare for the competition, students used resources from the UK Maths Trust, more specifically, the Senior Mathematical Challenge and the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge.

The Senior Group Investigation task was won by ASD, with ISG Jubail securing the runner-up position. BSD emerged as the winner in the Intermediate Group Investigation, while ASD took the runner-up spot. Student feedback pointed to the challenging nature of these tasks, highlighting the complexity and the intellectual rigor involved. This feedback underscores not only the difficulty of the competition but also the determination and problem-solving abilities displayed by all participants.

The thrilling Countdown Competition culminated in a spectacular win for one senior student from ISG Dammam, who took the top spot with an outstanding performance. A senior student from BSD demonstrated exceptional skill to secure a well-deserved second place. Rounding off the top three was a student from ISG Jubail, whose impressive showing earned him third place in this highly competitive event.

At ISG Jubail, we aim to foster a love and appreciation for mathematics. The day was filled with problem-solving, teamwork and fun, and our students from all schools showcased amazing talent and creativity.
