The Green Flag Is Ours! ISG Jubail Celebrates a Major Sustainability Achievement
SHARE
Congratulations to the ISG Jubail community on officially becoming a Green Flag school! This important achievement marks a significant step in the school's Eco-Schools journey and recognizes the dedication of students, staff and families who have worked together to make sustainability an increasingly meaningful part of everyday life on campus. The Green Flag recognition is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), acknowledging the community's commitment to environmental learning and positive action.
The recognition follows a year of student leadership, environmental learning and practical action. Led by the Eco-Club and supported by Mr. Casey Martin and Ms. Tricia Jordaan, students took an active role in shaping the school's sustainability efforts. Their work involved researching environmental challenges, conducting campus audits and developing initiatives that encouraged the wider community to make more thoughtful choices.
Across campus, these efforts have translated into changes that students and staff can see and take part in. Recycling and composting initiatives have helped reduce waste, while conservation reminders near light switches and water stations encourage everyone to be mindful of energy and water use. One particularly encouraging achievement was the reduction of single-use plastic bottle usage by 90 percent across campus. Students also collected 61.7 kilograms of compostable waste in just one month, helping turn everyday food waste into something that could support the school's gardens.
Student involvement has remained at the heart of the journey. Through environmental surveys, eco-art projects, garden initiatives and awareness campaigns, students have helped make sustainability a shared responsibility across grade levels. Their Eco Code, “Care for Earth. Care for Life. Small Actions. Big Change,” captures the message behind this work and the belief that everyday choices can contribute to a healthier environment.
The journey has also extended beyond the Eco-Club. Parent meetings and community activities have given students opportunities to share their progress and encourage others to get involved. Each contribution has helped build a school culture where environmental responsibility is part of how the community learns, works and cares for its surroundings.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Casey Martin and Ms. Tricia Jordaan for their guidance and commitment and to every student, staff member and family who played an important role in this achievement. The Green Flag is a recognition of what the ISG Jubail community has accomplished together and an encouragement to keep moving forward. Congratulations, Jaguars!
