ISG Jubail celebrated International Literacy Day with a special focus on the simple joy of sharing stories. Alongside Mrs. Jasbinder Jangra, Mrs. Sally-Anne Waugh and Mrs. Menchie Caubalejo, students brought books they enjoyed reading at home and exchanged them with friends, creating opportunities to discover new stories and share their love of reading.

The books reflected the diverse interests of our community, with students bringing a wonderful range of languages and genres. Spanish and English titles sat alongside fiction, comics and other favorite reads, giving students plenty of opportunities to find something that caught their attention.

Once the book swap began, classrooms settled into a shared reading experience. Students explored their new books, read alongside friends and enjoyed conversations about the stories they had chosen.

The celebration also gave students a chance to share a little piece of themselves through the books they brought. A favorite story can say a lot about what captures someone’s imagination, making a book swap a natural way for students to connect with one another.

To make the day even more memorable, students received handmade bookmarks designed and created by their teachers. Each bookmark offered a small keepsake they could take with them, helping them remember a day centered on stories, friendship and the joy of reading.

International Literacy Day was a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate the many ways books bring people together. Across languages, genres and different interests, students found common ground in the simple experience of opening a book and sharing a story.
