ISG Jubail Eco Club Drives Sustainability Across Campus

At ISG Jubail, the Eco-Committee continues to bring sustainability to life across campus through student leadership, creativity and consistent action. Students are taking meaningful steps toward caring for their environment in ways that feel both practical and lasting. Their work reflects a shared commitment across the school community, where students and staff are working together to build habits that support a more sustainable future.

A recent highlight has been the development of ISG Jubail’s Eco Code, selected with the involvement of elementary students in grades 3 through 5. The code reflects a collective voice and shared responsibility across the campus. It emphasizes reducing, recycling, reusing and composting correctly, taking initiative to care for shared spaces, planting and protecting green areas and being mindful of water and energy use. At its heart, the Eco Code encourages thoughtful action, reminding students that caring for the planet begins with everyday choices.

Sustainability efforts are also reflected in the school’s focus areas, which include waste and recycling, biodiversity and school grounds, energy conservation, water conservation and student leadership. These priorities guide ongoing projects and give students clear ways to take part in meaningful change. A new eco board will soon share the progress of these efforts, helping the community see how small, consistent actions contribute to larger outcomes.

Recent initiatives have already made a visible impact. In just one month, ISG Jubail collected 61.7 kilograms of compostable waste, an amount that can fill a garden bed on campus. Over the course of a year, this effort is projected to divert around 400 kilograms of waste to fill gardens. Plans are also in place to expand composting with a new designated area, supporting continued growth in this area.

Across campus, reminders to care for the environment have been thoughtfully integrated into daily routines. Student-designed colorful stickers placed near light switches and water stations encourage everyone to conserve energy and water. These small visual cues help reinforce shared responsibility and keep sustainability at the forefront of everyday actions.

Creativity continues to play a strong role in these efforts. During a recent Earth Day poster competition, students expressed their connection to nature through thoughtful and inspiring artwork, with one elementary student earning third place. Looking ahead, additional projects are already in motion, including the installation of birdhouses and bird cameras and the development of a plant identification app that will be available for the school community.

The collective effort is also reflected in a significant reduction in single-use plastic, with 90 percent of plastic bottle usage eliminated across campus. This progress highlights how consistent choices made by students and staff can lead to meaningful change over time. As the Eco-Committee prepares for its next meeting, there is a continued sense of purpose and excitement across ISG Jubail. The community remains committed to building a culture where sustainability is part of everyday life and where each action contributes to a healthier future for all.
