Primary Students Return to the BSD Garden for Hands-On Learning Experience

After several weeks of virtual learning, primary students at British School Dhahran were excited to return to the BSD garden and reconnect with outdoor learning through a meaningful hands-on experience. 

Picking up right where they left off, the students worked together to harvest a variety of fresh produce, including sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, turnips, onions and even a surprise watermelon discovered hidden among the leaves. The gardening activities encouraged students to explore nature, understand where food comes from, and develop practical skills through teamwork, responsibility and care for the environment.

The experience became even more rewarding when Miss Baker used the freshly harvested vegetables to prepare a delicious homemade soup in the school kitchen, allowing students to enjoy the results of their hard work together. Sharing the meal created a wonderful sense of community and helped students make meaningful connections between gardening, healthy eating and sustainable living. 

Experiences like these play an important role in supporting student wellbeing, building confidence, and bringing learning to life in a way that extends far beyond the classroom. Through activities such as gardening and cooking, BSD continues to provide engaging learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.
