Middle school students, alongside Mrs. Maria Khan, worked on every aspect of their Puppet Show from designing puppet booths and crafting characters to writing scripts, creating sound effects and performing for an audience. The project became a celebration of creativity, collaboration and storytelling, giving students the opportunity to transform their ideas into imaginative performances that brought laughter and excitement to the school community.
As part of their mixed media unit, students explored how different materials, techniques and artistic approaches can be combined to create meaningful work. They also researched the history and cultural significance of puppetry, learning how puppets have been used across generations to communicate stories, emotions and ideas. This deeper understanding inspired students as they began developing their own original productions.
Working in teams, students took ownership of every stage of the creative process. They designed and built puppet booths, crafted props and puppets, planned scenes and developed scripts that reflected their unique ideas and personalities. Throughout the project, students practiced problem-solving, teamwork and artistic decision-making while learning how different forms of media can work together to strengthen a performance.
The final productions were filled with humor, imagination and originality. Students brought their characters to life through carefully planned performances, while student-created sound effects added another layer of creativity and helped enhance the storytelling experience. Each group developed its own distinct storyline, allowing students to express their individuality and sense of humor through their work.
The performances also created opportunities for connection across the school community. Elementary students were invited to attend the shows, filling the audience with laughter and enthusiastic support. Seeing younger students engage with the stories added an extra sense of purpose and excitement for the performers, who proudly shared the results of their hard work.
The Puppet Show reflected the creativity, dedication and confidence that continue to grow through arts education at ISG Jubail. By combining research, design, performance and storytelling into a single experience, students created something meaningful while strengthening the collaborative skills that will continue to serve them both inside and outside the classroom.
