Students Explore Water Sustainability Through Debate at ISG Jubail

At ISG Jubail, STEAM students, alongside Mr. Casey Martin, continued their learning journey by exploring one of the region’s most important topics, water sustainability. 

Following a visit to a local desalination plant in Jubail at the end of 2025, students returned to the classroom with a deeper understanding of how seawater is transformed into fresh water. Seeing this process up close helped them connect their learning to the realities of life in the region, where access to water plays a vital role in everyday living.

Back in the classroom, students built on this experience through a structured debate centered on the question of whether countries should expand the use of desalination to address future water shortages. Working in teams, they approached the topic from multiple perspectives, considering environmental impact, cost, energy use and long term sustainability. Each group worked collaboratively to research information, organize their ideas and prepare thoughtful arguments that reflected careful consideration and shared effort.

As the debate unfolded, students presented their perspectives with confidence while listening respectfully to differing viewpoints. They responded to questions, reflected on new ideas and supported their claims with evidence, creating a space where discussion felt both engaging and meaningful. The experience encouraged students to think critically about complex global challenges while practicing communication skills that will support them beyond the classroom.

Through this process, students developed a stronger connection between what they learn in school and the world around them. Their ability to approach a real issue with curiosity and informed thinking reflects the kind of learning that continues to shape ISG Jubail.
