Science Lab Instructional Assistant
Position Description
Summary
The Science Lab Instructional Assistant supports the science department by facilitating safe, organized, and engaging lab environments across all science courses and grade levels (high school). This role involves assisting with lab preparation and cleanup, managing resources and inventory, and supporting instruction when possible. The instructional assistant collaborates professionally with staff and students, contributes to ongoing department planning and reflection, and helps foster student agency and enthusiasm for science. A commitment to continuous professional learning and responsive support to departmental needs is essential.
Position Duties

- Assist in supervising students engaged in lab/class work.
- Organize, inventory, and maintain departmental resources.
- Assist in the set-up and take-down of science labs across all science courses and grade levels, including cleaning/sanitizing lab equipment, mixing chemical solutions, and providing general assistance as needed.
- Organize and communicate local science order needs and support the annual international ordering process, update records and paperwork regularly.
- Understand scientific concepts and support instruction when/where applicable.
- Create an environment where students passionately exercise agency in pursuing science.
- Support the science team in planning meaningful science-related opportunities and lab experiences.
- Support the science team in learning through assessment and feedback.
- Support the science team in reflecting on assessment goals and targets.
- Support the science team in planning and delivering effective and meaningful learning opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications and Knowledge
The candidate must have:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Deep content knowledge in science.
- Willingness to learn and grow with the departmental team and through professional development.
- Knowledge of technology to support science instruction.
- Experience and/or certification/licensure to teach science.
- An advanced degree in a related field of study.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience
- Running experiments and labs in a multitude of science contexts.
- Teaching science in an international context.
- Organizing resources and science equipment.
- Collaborating in a professional setting with large and small groups of colleagues.
- Using the Google Suite and all-around good general computer skills.
- With chemicals and safely storing/disposing of hazardous chemicals.
