ASD’s Middle School Students Showcase Learning Through National History Day Projects

This week, middle school students at American School Dhahran presented their culminating National History Day (NHD) projects—an annual tradition that has served as the capstone academic experience for our middle schoolers over the past four years.

National History Day is a nationally recognized academic program that challenges students to conduct in-depth historical research on a topic of their choice related to an annual theme. This year, all 85 middle school students selected topics aligned with the global theme, “Rights & Responsibilities in History,” and presented their findings through a medium of their choosing—performance, exhibit, documentary or website.

The NHD project offers students a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate the research, analysis and presentation skills they’ve developed throughout middle school. More importantly, it allows them to explore topics they’re passionate about and connect historical events to the world around them.

This morning, students presented their work to a broad audience that included peers, parents, district staff, high school students and their future high school social studies teachers. We are proud of the confidence, curiosity and creativity our students displayed throughout the process.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students. Their excitement was evident, and having family members and peers in the audience made the experience even more meaningful.
