ASD Middle School Students Lead Initiative Connecting Elementary Students Across ISG
SHARE
Through the Compassion Club, middle school students at American School Dhahran have spearheaded a unique initiative demonstrating both leadership and a commitment to encouraging connections across the International Schools Group. The ISG PenPals project pairs elementary students from different ISG campuses, including ASD and ISG Dammam, in a weekly exchange of letters facilitated by an inter-school mailing system.
This student-led initiative aimed to promote communication skills and build friendships among younger students within the ISG network. While the project encountered initial logistical hurdles in establishing a reliable mail flow and efficiently matching 120 participants, these challenges were overcome through the students' problem-solving efforts.
The ISG PenPals program exemplifies ASD's commitment to providing well-rounded educational opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom. By creating and implementing this project, middle school students gained practical experience in leadership, organization and communication, while simultaneously creating a meaningful connection opportunity for elementary students across the ISG system. The positive feedback from participating younger students highlights the program's success in promoting social-emotional growth and a sense of community. This initiative highlights the ways in which ASD encourages students to take on leadership roles and develop skills that contribute to their personal and social development.
