ASD Speakathon

ASD conducts an annual speech contest called a Speakathon, under the auspices of its vibrant Debate Club and aims to hone the public speaking and debating skills of ASD students.  Each year the contest has a different theme, is attended by families and judged by Toastmaster guests.  On March 16, 2023, Speakthon 23 ran with the theme ‘Communication Skills or Communication Kills.’

Contestants were selected through a preliminary audition and were trained by the Speech coach. This year there were 10 contestants who won best entertainer, first, second and third places, in addition to honorable mention, striking performers and meritorious speaker awards.

ASD’s next speaking event will be the Eastern Province Inter-school Debate Contest (EPID) which ASD has won for the past 8 years.  Winning teams will proceed to the World Debate Contest.  ASD hopes to conduct the first national debate contest Saudi Arabian National Debates (SAND) soon.

At ASD we firmly believe that a person should only be in competition with themselves, not with others, and therefore there can be no limits to what can be achieved.

Thanks to Prof. Shaila Koya for training our students, Ms. Jennifer Mayorga for being a judge and to everyone who assisted in facilitating the event.
