At the British School Dhahran (BSD), we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals who are not only academically accomplished but also skilled in leadership, resilience and community service.
In line with this commitment, we recently held an assembly to introduce our students to the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award—a program that challenges young people to push their boundaries and develop essential life skills.
What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a globally recognized program that encourages young people to take on new challenges and grow through self-discovery. Established in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, this award has since become a symbol of excellence, leadership and commitment to personal development. It is open to young people aged 14 to 24, and is available in over 140 countries, making it one of the most respected youth programs in the world.
The DofE Award is divided into three levels—Bronze, Silver and Gold—each with its own set of challenges and milestones. As students progress through these levels, they are required to participate in a series of activities that promote personal growth and community involvement
The Importance of the Duke of Edinburgh Award
The DofE Award is not just about completing activities—it's about growth, resilience and leadership. Each participant is encouraged to set personal goals, work towards them and reflect on their experiences. The program is designed to be challenging but achievable, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence in every participant.
Moreover, the DofE Award is highly regarded by universities and employers worldwide. It demonstrates a commitment to personal and social development, making it a valuable addition to any student’s resume or university application.
