The Impact of ASD’s Team Shamrock's Gratitude Wall

As a Compassionate Action Project, American School Dhahran’s Team Shamrock created and implemented a "Gratitude Wall" at the elementary school. With the support of elementary assistant principal Ms. Marissa Archie and librarian Ms. Caitlyn Wingers, the team established this interactive space in the heart of the library for a two-week period. The concept was simple yet profound: students were invited to write thank-you messages on sticky notes and share their appreciation for friends, teachers and the small acts of kindness that often go unnoticed.

The impact of the Gratitude Wall was remarkable. It served as a force for promoting positive thinking, encouraging students to actively identify and acknowledge the good around them. This simple practice contributed to improved self-esteem and strengthened relationships among students and educators. Furthermore, the act of writing and sharing these messages enhanced emotional expression and communication skills. The library, for those two weeks, radiated an even warmer and connected atmosphere.

Team Shamrock's observations highlighted the project's success. They noted that the Gratitude Wall prompted students to appreciate seemingly small gestures, played a role in reducing minor conflicts, and provided a tangible opportunity for students to value and cherish their connections with one another. The increased engagement in the library and the overall positive atmosphere were clear indicators of the project's effectiveness.
