ISG Dammam MUN in Bratislava

From December 1-3, 20 ISG Dammam Model United Nations students participated in the MUN conference in Bratislava, Slovakia.

ISG Dammam students participated in various committees and debated topics including the humanitarian crisis in Syria, cyber warfare, the healthcare crisis in Sudan and the use and promotion of nuclear energy.

We are very proud of our students whole won the following awards for their debating efforts during the conference: Outstanding Delegate for the Historical Security Council Committee, Best Delegate for the Disarmament and International Security Council Committee, Outstanding Delegate for the International Atomic Energy Agency Committee, Outstanding Delegate for the Economic and Social Council Committee, Best Delegate for the Economic and Social Council Committee and Honorable Mention for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Committee.

The BRATMUN conference was hosted by the largest high school in Slovakia, the Gymnasium of Jur Hronec, on the campus of Comenius University. BRATMUN's theme for 2023 was “Preserving the Past, Honoring the Legacy, Shaping the Future.” One-hundred and eighty students from Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Sweden and Saudi Arabia gathered to debate and engage in MUN simulations.

The ISG Dammam delegates had a wonderful experience debating global issues, making new friends and exploring a different part of the world. They were able to go sightseeing in Vienna and old town Bratislava before the conference, and they particularly enjoyed the Schonbrunn Palace, the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Fine Arts and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.  A highlight for many students was seeing snow, many of them for the first time.

At ISG Dammam, we believe that participating in overseas MUN conferences has many benefits. When students are exposed to diverse perspectives and international issues they enhance their global awareness and diplomatic skills. As they engage with students from around the world they also develop cross-cultural understanding and learn about networking. The MUN conference is a platform for honing public speaking, negotiation and critical thinking abilities, and ultimately, the experience builds confidence and adaptability, and prepares our students for future leadership roles.

Congratulations to all our participating students on their achievements, and thanks to Ms. Betsey Hawkins and Ms. Maggie Cashdollar from ISG Dammam, and Mr. Adam Campbell from Sara Village School for supervising and being a constant source of support for our students.
