On December 8 and 10, the ASD middle school Drama class proudly presented the one-act theater production by Alan Haehnel, "15 Reasons Not to Be in a Play!" This hilarious comedy takes a lighthearted look at all the reasons people might avoid getting involved in drama productions. From the absurd—like being stuck inside a tree—to the relatable, such as the dreaded prospect of wearing make-up or even accidentally causing a hurricane, the play kept audiences laughing with its clever scenarios and witty dialogue.
This production marked the culmination of a semester-long journey in the Drama II elective course. Throughout the semester, students built upon the foundational skills they gained in Drama I, diving deeper into the production and performance process. They explored all aspects of theater, including character development, staging and ensemble work, bringing their creativity and collaboration to life on stage.
The success of this performance reflects the dedication and growth of the students involved, as well as the mentorship and guidance of their drama instructor. These budding thespians are now eligible to take Drama III: Musical Production and Performance, which will be offered next semester. This next-level course will provide students with an exciting opportunity to further develop their theatrical talents by exploring the unique demands and joys of musical theater.
With the passion and skill they have demonstrated, these students are well-prepared to take on the challenges of musical performance and continue to shine on stage.
