ASD Speakathon 2024: A Showcase of Oratory Excellence

On Tuesday, March 5, American School Dhahran students held their annual Speakathon, our prestigious annual speech contest.

Since its inception in 2005, Speakathon has been a cornerstone event, fostering eloquence, confidence and leadership among our students. This year marked its 19th edition, and the excitement was palpable!

Speakathon serves multiple purposes. It provides a platform for ASD high school speakers to enhance their speaking skills and celebrate the best speakers, inspiring all participants. Additionally, Speakathon equips students with essential communication and leadership skills, preparing them for future endeavors.

The journey to Speakathon began early, with auditions starting in December 2023. Students competed for speaking slots and underwent rigorous training for 2-3 weeks to refine their speeches. Time management played a crucial role in shaping their presentations.

The final contest, held on March 5, saw 10 ASD finalists competing in front of a panel of judges, including Toastmasters, evaluating their performances. Drawing from Toastmasters International criteria, judges assessed various aspects of speech delivery. Prizes were awarded for outstanding performances, including special awards for the most entertaining speaker and the best message.

While winners were celebrated, every participant gained valuable skills and confidence from the Speakathon experience. Stepping onto the stage and engaging an audience shaped students into effective communicators and leaders.

American School Dhahran would like to thank the Speakathon 2024 judges:

  • Contest Chair: Prof. Shaila Koya, DTM.
  • Contest Masters: Jason Treakle, Chiamaka Angela Ezeuko.
  • In-House Judges for Auditions: Ms. Eliana Harris, Ms. Amber Glyn.
  • Judges for the Finals: TM Bindu Rajendran, DTM Omar Malik Farooq, DTM Azhar Farooq, DTM Afzal Akram, Dr. Anna Marie Amudi, Dr. Linda Amin.

As Speakathon 2024 unfolded, we celebrated the art of public speaking and commended the dedication of all participants. Through Speakathon, ASD continued to nurture confident and articulate individuals ready to make a lasting impact with the power of the spoken word. We would like to thank Ms. Shaila Koya for her effort and support each year in leading and organizing the Speakathon and ensuring that it continues as a cornerstone ASD activity.
