World Arabic Language Day

On Monday, December 18, ISG Dammam celebrated World Arabic Language Day with a variety of activities put together by the high school Arabic Club to promote the love of the Arabic language and culture.

Our entire school community started the day by forming the letter "ض" (daad) on the football pitch. The elementary school students lined up to create a border around the letter and middle and high school students filled in space.

The next activity was a read aloud of Arabic picture books by our high school students to our elementary students. They read with inflection and excitement and used the pictures to help every student understand the story. The elementary students were enthralled by having older students read to them.

Finally, the middle school Arabic Club and the high school Arabic Club put on performances to celebrate the history and culture of the Arabic language.

The middle school Arabic club performed poems, readings and debates all in Arabic. The students were then given the chance to demonstrate their Arabic knowledge by participating in a quiz and participating students enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate what they are learning in their school, homes and community.

The high school Arabic Club prepared a play for parents and student. The play, a retelling of a well-known Arabic movie, shared the story of how a teacher learns to use kindness and love in his classroom to build relationships with his students. The students performed the hour long play all in Arabic. The high school Arabic Club worked diligently to memorize their lines, prepare props, sets and costumes, and provided a summary for students who don't know Arabic. The audience were delightfully engaged in the play and were impressed with the acting of our Arabic Club.

We are grateful to the Arabic departments from the middle school and high school for their excellent work in helping our students and the entire ISG Dammam community celebrate the culture, heritage and traditions of the Arabic language.
