ISG Dammam Makes Waves for Ocean Conservation
SHARE
Protecting the environment begins with a shared commitment within our local community. At ISG Dammam, middle and high school students recently came together to take meaningful steps toward marine conservation through the KBR One Ocean Initiative. The cross-campus project aligned directly with the school mission to inspire innovation and compassionate action, bringing real-world ecological challenges right into the heart of the learning experience.
The journey began across advisory classes under the guidance of Eco Club sponsors Rana Fatima and Fathma Shahnaz, alongside the dedicated Eco Club student team. Each advisory group received a specific topic focused on marine health, climate impact, ocean conservation or engineering solutions. Over the course of a week, students gathered research, exchanged ideas and designed brief group presentations. Across three consecutive Sundays, classes stepped up in the school auditorium to share their findings with peers, creating a welcoming space to exchange fresh ideas and broaden perspectives on protecting natural ecosystems.
Student dedication extended far beyond the campus grounds. Last school year, more than 100 ISG students took part in a beach cleanup at Half Moon Bay during Week Without Walls, demonstrating hands-on commitment to local marine care.
That hard work gained regional recognition at the KBR One Ocean Closing Ceremony held at SCITECH. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Ministry of Education attended the gathering, which brought together representatives from more than 55 schools across the Eastern Province. During the event, attendees viewed a gallery walk featuring student engineering solutions for marine preservation.
ISG received a trophy honoring its ongoing partnership with KBR and active leadership in the initiative. Dedicated ISG Dammam students and their sponsors received special awards of appreciation for their leadership, creativity and effort.
Our school community celebrates these young learners as they grow into thoughtful global citizens. By learning about our waters and sharing that knowledge with neighbors, our students demonstrate that everyday actions build a healthier planet for generations to come. Looking ahead, ISG Dammam eagerly anticipates expanding its presence at the next event with a dedicated interactive booth as the KBR One Ocean program begins its next phase.
