ASD Students Take Home The Team Trophy At The MATHCOUNTS Competition

The Mathletes of International Schools Group (ISG) once again demonstrated their passion, perseverance and problem-solving skills during the 2025 MATHCOUNTS competition season, marking the second year of ISG’s official participation as an Overseas American School.

The MATHCOUNTS Foundation—established in 1983 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and CNA Insurance—has long been recognized as a leader in promoting excellence in mathematics education. Over the years, it has received two White House citations and has been honored by five U.S. presidents for its impact on STEM learning.

This year, 36 students from three ISG campuses—American School Dhahran, ISG Dammam and ISG Jubail—competed in the program’s four rigorous rounds: Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown.

All students participated in the Sprint Round, which tested speed and accuracy as competitors tackled 30 problems in 40 minutes without calculators. The Target Round followed, challenging students to solve complex problems in pairs, using calculators and critical reasoning.

Top scorers from each school were selected to form official four-member teams, advancing to the Team Round, where collaboration took center stage as they solved 10 problems in 20 minutes. The 12 highest-scoring individuals then moved on to the high-intensity Countdown Round—a fast-paced, head-to-head faceoff requiring mental agility, with only 45 seconds per question and no calculators allowed.

An ASD middle school student earned the title of ISG MATHCOUNTS 2025 Individual Champion with an impressive score of 43 out of 46. A student from ISG Dammam claimed victory in the Countdown Round, and ASD took home the Team Trophy for the highest cumulative team score. The competition was fierce, with ISG Jubail finishing just half a point behind ASD in the final standings.

ISG is proud of all participating students for their hard work, enthusiasm and mathematical talent. The Teaching and Learning Office applauds the efforts of ISG educators who prepared and supported students throughout the competition. ISG looks forward to deepening its involvement in MATHCOUNTS and supporting students in future Chapter, State and National competitions.
