ASD Celebrates Student Athletes at Annual Sports Awards

American School Dhahran hosted its annual sports awards event this week, bringing together students, families, faculty and peers to celebrate the achievements and dedication of ASD student-athletes. The evening highlighted a year of hard work, growth and excellence across both athletic and extracurricular programs.

The celebration began with opening remarks from ASD Principal Brent Wingers, who set the tone for an inspiring night of recognition. Coaches from each team took the stage to reflect on their seasons, share highlights and present awards to student-athletes who demonstrated exceptional performance, leadership and commitment.

This year, 314 student-athletes represented ASD across a wide range of sports and activities. A record-breaking 28 high school teams competed in SAIKAC and NESAC events, a testament to the growing enthusiasm and participation in the school’s programs. ASD had 33 dedicated staff members coach and mentor these teams throughout the year.

ASD achieved 99% participation in SAIKAC events, only missing out on netball. In NESAC, ASD took part in 10 of 12 events, with the only exceptions being band and choir and swimming. Notably, ASD had the honor of hosting the first SAIKAC rugby tournament, further solidifying its leadership and commitment to the regional athletics community.

The sports awards evening recognized excellence in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, table tennis, badminton, tennis, cricket and cross-country
  • Academic games, band and choir, highlighting ASD’s dedication to a well-rounded student experience

The event concluded with the presentation of the ASD Athlete of the Year awards, presented to two junior varsity and two varsity athletes. These students exemplified sportsmanship, perseverance and a positive impact within their teams.

As ASD prepares to enter its fourth year as a member of the NESAC conference, the school reflects on the tremendous progress made and sets its sights even higher. The challenge is clear: to grow participation, aim for 100% involvement in both SAIKAC and NESAC events and continue building a culture of excellence.

To our student-athletes, coaches and athletic department: thank you for an incredible year. Let’s keep striving, growing and achieving—on and off the field.
